The Selected Illustrations

Congratulations, published artists! The work of five student artists will be published and shared by The Grannie Annie during the upcoming year. Special congratulations to Katie Richardson, whose illustration for "The Pawfect Dog Walker" will be featured on the cover of Grannie Annie, Vol. 15

Please check back often in the days and weeks ahead, as more details about the ongoing celebration will be posted as they become available. We are sorry that there will be no Family Stories Festival at the Missouri History Museum this year. We hope you will make plans to safely share your family stories and story illustrations with your family, friends, and neighbors.

The Selected Stories

Congratulations to the 23 soon-to-be-published Grannie Annie authors! What an honor for these young people to be published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 15, as The Grannie Annie received 403 historical family stories from authors in two countries and nine US states — and each story touched our volunteer readers in its own special way.

This year's annual volume will be available as a PDF edition and a paperback edition. The 23 memorable stories included in Grannie Annie, Vol. 15, will also be published on this website, and shared through Facebook and Twitter throughout the upcoming year. Please watch this page for updates as the celebration continues!

Celebrate the Stories!

The stories! The stories have arrived: from Colorado to New York to . . . Israel! Thank you to all students, parents, and teachers who have submitted family stories. Dozens of volunteers are in the process of reading and enjoying the 403 stories received this year. Stories will be read and reread as the selection committee decides which stories will be published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 15. The titles of the stories chosen for publication and the names of their authors will be announced on this website page in early March. You can also follow the news on The Grannie Annie's Facebook page.

For now, let the celebration continue! What does your Grannie Annie celebration include? Visit "The Grannie Annie Extension Activities" for inspiration, or send us your ideas to be added to the page.

Will you be reading your story to an audience? This Resource for Enrichment may be helpful as you prepare: "Reading Your Grannie Annie Story Aloud."

You Can Listen Now, to The Grannie Annie on the Radio

You can listen now to The Grannie Annie's radio interview that aired live on November 25, on St. Louis Public Radio, KWMU (90.7 FM).

Hear a Grannie Annie author published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 14, share her published story and talk about her "Grannie Annie experience" — about discovering and writing the story of her grandmother's escape from Manchukuo to Japan during World War II, and her later immigration to the United States.

Following the "listen now" link above will take you to an audio recording of the program preceded by photos of the participants and a brief written introduction.

Join The Grannie Annie on the Radio — Monday, Nov. 25

You're invited to join The Grannie Annie in the sharing of family stories on St. Louis on the Air on KWMU (90.7 FM), St. Louis's National Public Radio affiliate.

The program will air live at 12:00 noon CST on Monday, November 25, and The Grannie Annie's part will begin at 12:37. The program will be rebroadcast at 7:00 p.m. CST that night. It is possible to listen online.

A student author published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 14, will be in the studio to share her published story and to talk about her "Grannie Annie experience" — about discovering and writing the story of her grandmother's escape from Manchukuo to Japan during World War II, and her later immigration to the United States.

If you have had a Grannie Annie experience, you're invited to call the station during Monday's interview, between 12:35 pm and 12:45 pm, at 314–382–TALK (8255). Please have in mind a specific point you would like to make. Perhaps you would like to share the reaction of a grandparent at hearing his or her story being retold. Or perhaps you learned something new about your family that you had never before heard.

When the link to the archived program becomes available it will be provided on this web page.
