Family Stories Festival on YouTube The video recording of the published authors and artists who took part in the 2019 Family Stories Festival is now available to be viewed on YouTube. Please note that introductions of students have been cut from the recording in order to protect the students' privacy. The time at which each student's presentation begins is identified in the description of the recording — just below the viewing window — so you can easily hop to the presentations that you want to view. Presentations are identified by story title rather than student name, again to protect student privacy. The easiest way to find the recording is to click on the link given above. You can also search YouTube with "The Grannie Annie 2019." The channel name is "The Grannie FSC." The 2019 Grannie Annie Family Stories Festival was presented with the Missouri History Museum. 8/5/19
Family Stories Festival on Facebook Photographs of the 2019 Family Stories Festival have been added to The Grannie Annie's Facebook page. Twenty-five young people took the stage at the Missouri History Museum in St. Louis, Missouri, on June 2 to celebrate Grannie Annie, Vol. 14, and the nearly 1,000 students who took part in The Grannie Annie this year. Selected photos from the Festival, and images of this year's story illustrations, will be added to this website soon. The video recording of the Festival is being processed for posting on YouTube, and is expected to be available in a few weeks. Please watch this page for more information as it becomes available. June 2: Author Readings, Artist Talks, Art Exhibit, Book Signing The annual Family Stories Festival was again a joyous success — with a record crowd in attendance! This heartwarming family program was presented with the Missouri History Museum and was held on Sunday afternoon, June 2, at the Missouri History Museum in St. Louis, Missouri. The program included author readings and artist talks by students published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 14, plus an exhibit of art published in this year's book, and a book-signing reception. If you haven't attended a Family Stories Festival, we urge you to find more information here and plan to attend next year, on the first Sunday in June 2020. All students who participate in the 2019/2020 yearlong celebration by submitting a family story or family story illustration are invited to take part in the Festival. 6/7/19
Grannie Annie, Vol. 14, is here! This year's collection of historical family stories is now available! Grannie Annie, Vol. 14, includes thirty-eight stories chosen to represent the 536 stories shared with The Grannie Annie this year. Twelve of the stories are illustrated by students in the same age group. Stories in this year's volume took place in sixteen U.S. states in nineteen countries on three continents over a span of 356 years. 6/7/19
The Selected Illustrations Congratulations, published artists! The work of twelve student artists will be published and exhibited by The Grannie Annie during the upcoming year. Special congratulations to Devyn Shelton, whose illustration for "The Lucky Baby" will be featured on the cover of Grannie Annie, Vol. 14. Please check back often in the days and weeks ahead, as more details about the ongoing celebration will be posted as they become available. We hope you will make plans now to join us at the Missouri History Museum in St. Louis, Missouri, on June 2, for the Family Stories Festival! The Selected Stories Congratulations to the 38 soon-to-be-published Grannie Annie authors! What an honor for these young people to be published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 14, as The Grannie Annie received 536 historical family stories from authors in nine states — and each story touched our volunteer readers in its own special way. Again
this year, three editions of the annual volume will be available — an
eBook edition, a PDF edition, and a paperback edition. The 38 memorable
stories included in Grannie Annie, Vol. 14, will also be published on this website, and shared through Facebook and Twitter throughout the year following. Please watch this page for updates as the celebration continues!
Celebrate the Stories! The stories! The stories have arrived: from Idaho to North Carolina! From New York to Alabama! Thank you to all students, parents, and teachers who have submitted family stories. Dozens of volunteers are in the process of reading and enjoying the 536 stories received this year. Stories will be read and reread as the selection committee decides which stories will be published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 14. The titles of the stories chosen for publication and the names of their authors will be announced on this website page in early March. You can also follow the news on The Grannie Annie's Facebook page. For now, let the celebration continue! What does your Grannie Annie celebration include? The Stories are Arriving! The map below will be updated as family stories and story illustrations arrive from this year's Grannie Annie storykeepers. Stories and illustrations can be submitted at any time throughout the year. The story submission deadline for Grannie Annie, Vol. 14, was February 1, 2019; the illustration submission deadline, for illustrations of submitted stories, is March 1, 2019. Please see the Submit Stories page for additional details. Solicited illustrations, of stories selected for publication, are submitted later in March — If you are an art teacher and would like your students to submit illustrations of stories that are selected for publication in Grannie Annie, Vol. 14, please be in touch for details. 2/3/19
The Grannie Annie Featured in Colorado Newspaper Left Hand Valley Courier of Niwot, Colorado, suggests giving books by local authors as holiday gifts — including Grannie Annie books! The article, titled "Top off your holiday shopping with recent releases from Left Hand Valley authors," highlights three area authors in addition to The Grannie Annie. This photo of three Niwot-area students who were published in recent volumes of Grannie Annie also accompanies the article. In addition to suggesting that readers purchase Grannie Annie books at Inkberry Books in Niwot, the article invites readers to submit a family story for the upcoming volume (submission deadline February 1, 2019) and to listen to the The Grannie Annie's recent radio interview on St. Louis Public Radio. You Can Listen Now, to The Grannie Annie on the Radio You can listen now to The Grannie Annie's radio interview that aired live on November 21, on St. Louis Public Radio, KWMU (90.7 FM). Hear a Grannie Annie author published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 13, read his family story about his great-great-great-great-aunt Olivia, who witnessed a Civil War battle when she was six years old. You'll also hear a discussion of The Grannie Annie and the value of family stories, and hear an additional story from Vol. 13, about a family's memorable Thanksgiving. Following the "listen now" link above will take you to an audio recording of the program preceded by photos of the participants and a brief written introduction. 11/21/18
Join The Grannie Annie on the Radio—Wednesday, Nov. 21 You're invited to join The Grannie Annie in the sharing of family stories on St. Louis on the Air on KWMU (90.7 FM), St. Louis's National Public Radio affiliate. The program will air live at 12:00 noon CST on Wednesday, November 21, and The Grannie Annie's part will come soon after a brief local news segment. The program will be rebroadcast at 10:00 p.m. that night. It is possible to listen online. We plan to share a variety of stories from Grannie Annie, Vol. 13, published this past May. A published student author will be in the studio to talk about his "Grannie Annie experience" — about discovering and writing the story of his great-great-great-great-aunt Olivia, who witnessed a Civil War battle when she was six years old.
