Grannie Annie Published Students from St. Louis Area Noted

Fourteen students from St. Louis–area schools received recognition on June 17th in the online edition of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The students, who had family stories or illustrations published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 10, had been participants in The Grannie Annie's annual book signing celebration at the Missouri History Museum.

Missouri Author is Honored

A Grannie Annie author from Missouri was recognized in June on his school's website. The Grannie Annie joins his fellow students, his teachers, and the entire school community in the congratulations, which are well deserved: The thirty-five students whose stories were published this year represent seven percent of the students who submitted stories to The Grannie Annie this year. Book Signing Celebration on YouTube and Facebook

Video recordings of the 2015 Book Signing Celebration are now available to be viewed on YouTube. Each author or artist appears as an individual segment, so you can easily choose what you want to watch. The channel name is "The Grannie Annie FSC." In order to protect the privacy and safety of the artists and authors, individual segments are identified by story title. The numbers included in the segment titles refer to the order in which students presented at the Book Signing Celebration.

Photographs taken at the Celebration — 96 of them, to be exact! — are now posted on Facebook. Enjoy!

Missouri Artists' Secrets to Success

Five Grannie Annie published artists from Missouri have been recognized in their school newsletter. In the article, the students' teacher outlines the elements and principles of design that her students used to create their story illustrations. This is the third year in a row that art created by a student from this school has appeared on the cover of Grannie Annie.

Read the Stories / View the Illustrations!

The stories and illustrations published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 10, are also posted on this website. If you prefer to hold a lovely book in your hand as you read, you're invited to order a copy — you'll be supporting Grannie Annie students in the process.

Remember that Grannie Annie story collections make excellent gifts for everyone, including teachers, family, and friends. Consider sending Grannie Annie volumes to loved ones who are seniors, and to those you know who have shared their own oral histories through the years — or to those you would like to inspire to share their stories.

The Grannie Annie thanks you for your support of students, literacy, art, family, and community.

The Selected Illustrations — and the Book!

Congratulations to the 12 young artists whose illustrations will be published and exhibited by The Grannie Annie! Special congratulations to Andrew Uilhein, whose illustration for "The Bear Man" is featured on the cover of Grannie Annie, Vol. 10.

You can now sneak a peek at Vol. 10! Check back often in the days and weeks ahead — more details about the ongoing celebration will be posted as they become available.

The Selected Stories

Sincere congratulations to the 35 young authors whose historical family stories will be published this year, in Grannie Annie, Vol. 10! These soon-to-be-published authors can be very proud of this honor, as The Grannie Annie received more stories this year than ever before — 487, to be exact — and so very many were well-told, memorable stories.

Two identical editions will be published again this year — a paperback edition and a PDF edition. The 35 stories in Grannie Annie, Vol. 10, will also be published on this website.

Published authors, please look at the "Information for Published Students" page. (You can find a link to this page at the top left of the Grannie Annie home page.) You'll find information about your complimentary copies of Volume 10, this year's Book Signing Celebration and the coaching sessions to prepare authors for reading before an audience.

Please plan to check back often — news will be added here as this year's celebration unfolds. You'll be able to sneak a peak at Volume 10, learn about the annual Grannie Annie exhibit, and more!

Storykeepers HonoredStories Selected

Students, if you shared your family story with The Grannie Annie, your name should appear on this page. Please check to be sure your name is included and is spelled correctly, and let us know of any problems. These names will also be published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 10, honoring the Grannie Annie Storykeepers 2015!

The stories selected to be published, representing all the wonderful stories received this year, will be announced on this page soon. Authors of those stories will also receive an e-mail from The Grannie Annie.

Still Celebrating!

Authors, parents, teachers, family members: We hope you are continuing to celebrate the spectacular Grannie Annie stories written this year. Please let us know what your Grannie Annie celebration includes so we can share your ideas with others on "The Grannie Annie Extension Activities" page.

Everyone at The Grannie Annie has spent weeks reading and appreciating this year's stories! Each story submitted to The Grannie Annie has been read by three or four members of the Selection Committee; some stories have been read by as many as eight or more readers! How we wish we could publish every story we have received, as each one shares a significant family memory that touches the reader in a unique way. The Grannie Annie thanks each young author — and the author's family — for sharing an important part of their family's history.

3/13/15

Celebrate the Stories!

From Idaho to New York, and from Minnesota to Texas — and from India! — Grannie Annie stories have arrived!

Through the upcoming weeks, the submitted stories will be read and appreciated, then read and reread as the Selection Committee decides which stories will be published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 10. The titles of the stories chosen for publication, the names of their authors, and the names of illustrators whose work is chosen for publication will be announced on this website in mid-April. You can also follow the news on the Grannie Annie Facebook page.

For now, let the celebration continue! What does your Grannie Annie celebration include? Visit "The Grannie Annie Extension Activities" for inspiration, or send us your ideas to be added to the page.
