The Selected Stories

Congratulations to the 35 young authors whose family stories will be published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 8! Having your story selected for publication is certainly an honor, as there were so many memorable, well-told stories submitted—given enough staff time and funding we would have published many more!

This year The Grannie Annie will again publish two editions with identical content — a paperback edition, and a PDF edition for reading on your computer or other electronic device. The 35 stories in this year's books will also be published on this website.

Published authors, please look at the "Information for Published Students" page. (You can find a link to this page at the top left of the Grannie Annie home page.) You'll find information about your complimentary copies of Volume 8, this year's Author Reading / Art Show / Book Signing (June 1st) and the read-aloud coaching sessions to prepare for that event (May 18th).

We invite everyone to check this News page often in the weeks ahead to follow the Celebration as the good news spreads. You'll be able to sneak a peak at Volume 8 and even read the stories before the book arrives. You'll also be able to learn about the second annual Grannie Annie exhibition of illustrations planned for this May, at Gya Community Gallery in St. Louis.

Still Celebrating / Still Reading . . .

Authors, parents, teachers, family members — We hope you are continuing to celebrate the wonderful Grannie Annie stories written this year. Please let us know what your Grannie Annie celebration includes so we can share your ideas with others on "The Grannie Annie Extension Activities" page.

Everyone at The Grannie Annie has spent the last several weeks appreciating this year's stories! One Selection Committee reader wrote

Alfred, Lord Tennyson, said, "I am a part of all that I have met." I felt that I had met each of these families in a significant way as I read their stories.

Each story submitted to The Grannie Annie has been read by three or four members of the Selection Committee; some stories have been read by as many as eight readers! How we wish we could publish every story we have received, as each one shares a significant family memory that touches the reader in a unique way. The Grannie Annie thanks each young author — and the author's family — for sharing this important part of their family's history.

3/11/13

Celebrate the Stories!

From Colorado to New Jersey, and from Minnesota to Texas—Grannie Annie stories have arrived from across the country!

Through the upcoming weeks, the submitted stories will be read and appreciated, then read and reread as the Selection Committee decides which stories will be published in Grannie Annie, Vol. 8. The titles of the stories chosen for publication, the names of their authors, and the names of illustrators whose work is chosen for publication will be announced on this website in mid-April. You can also follow the news on the Grannie Annie Facebook page.

For now, let the celebration continue! What does your Grannie Annie celebration include? Visit "The Grannie Annie Extension Activities" for inspiration, or send us your ideas to be added to the page.

Will you be reading your story to an audience? These Resources for Enrichment may be helpful as you prepare: "A Grannie Annie Read-Aloud Example" and "Reading Your Grannie Annie Story Aloud."
